Our Rural Thai Community Internet Hub Project
The village in Si Sa Ket, North East Thailand, where our silk shirts are made is home to about 600 people. You would think that a community of this size would have access to the internet, but it doesn’t.
We feel it is pretty terrible that in the 21st century there are areas and communities that have no access to the internet. The internet is a great tool to help alleviate poverty as it can provide information and opportunities for communication and commerce.
With this in mind we have decided to put 100% profit from every silk shirt sold to help build an internet hub which will give the local community cheap access to the internet.
The land which the internet hub will be built on is owned by a local of the village. The hub is right next to the village school and already has the framework of the building in place. From here we will help finish the building off, and get the place filled with desks, computers and printers.
It might take a year to fully complete the project, but as the old saying goes – Rome wasn’t built in a day. The more silk shirts we sell the quicker the hub can be completed. So buy a shirt, tell your friends and family to buy a shirt, and hopefully we will get there in the end.
Keep reading our blog and we will keep you updated on our progress with the project.
